How do I launch a Ruby on Rails app on my Linux Apache VPS?

Hi,

I've been learning up on Ruby on Rails applications and want to launch an app I have built. Previous to learning RoR I was a PHP developer and therefore have my own LAMP stack VPS.

I don't like the idea of having to pay for another hosting service when I have a server to run the application on and so I wondered, what would I need to do to deploy/launch my application on my VPS?

I have a basic understanding of server management etc and have done some Googling into how I can do this but not really uncovered anything massively helpful.

I hope someone in this amazing community can help me!

What purpose will your app have? Is it going to be a 'proper app', or just a hobby one of for portfolio demonstration purposes?

Heroku has a free plan for hobbyists. If it's not a serious app, that should work fine. It's very easy to get setup and once your ready, it's a one line command to deploy the app.
