How do I select an <input> element with a certain ID name?

I assume I should use getElementByID() but I don't know how to format the values inside the parentheses.

The argument to getElementById() (note: lower-case "d") would be a string containing the ID name of the element you want to select. The string can be in a variable, or it can be a literal string in quotes.

document.querySelector("#<id>");

is a good option as well, just need to have the '#' in this one where above example does not.
