how do I use else, else if in a conditional statement

Not clear on how to accomplish this code challenge.

The syntax of your if statement is false. Between parenthesis, you check the condition.

var isAdmin = true;
var isStudent = false;

if ( isAdmin == true) {
  document.write("Welcome administrator");
} else (isStudent == false){
  alert("access denied");
}
  • Use "==" to compare and "=" to assign. Here you want to compare so "=="
  • use else if if you have more than two choices (here if / else should do the trick)

Here's a few hints:

  • the conditional expression must be entirely inside the parentheses
  • there will be no semicolon between the conditional and the code block
  • boolean values never need to be compared to "true", just naming them is enough
  • the challenge asks for an alert message, not a "document.write"
  • this challenge does not require an "else" condition
