How do you add together strings?

I am unsure how to ad the 'id', #, and 'lastName' together to get the final product while using the .toUpperCase

var id = "23188xtr";
var lastName = "Smith";

var userName

console.log("userName".toUpperCase());

console.log "usernName" = "id+#+lasName".toUpperCase();

var id = "23188xtr"; var lastName = "Smith";

var userName = id + lastName;

Look at it as 1 + 2 = 3 (or 3 = 1 + 2)
