How do you combine "23188XTR" and "#SMITH" while adding the ".toUpperCase" function?

You add them together using string concatenation like this:

var id = "23188xtr";
var lastName = "Smith";

var userName = id.toUpperCase() + "#" + lastName.toUpperCase()

You can use '+' for string concatenation (combining multiple strings into one):

var userName = id.toUpperCase() + '#' + lastName.toUpperCase();
