Hello Sharon,

There are several ways you can do this, for example chaining the console method to the the .toUpperCase()

var id = "Smith";
var userName="23188xtr";


console.log(id.toUpperCase());
console.log(userName.toUpperCase());

Or with a Function:

var id = "Smith";
var userName="23188xtr";


function makeItBig(string){
  console.log(string.toUpperCase());
}

makeItBig(id);
makeItBig(userName);

You were close, and you applied the method properly, you just need to combine it with the declaration and assignment of the variable:

var userName = id.toUpperCase();

Note that you will not need to add any additional literal strings for this challenge, the rest of the steps should all be done using the variables already provided.
