Hi

The final keyword is used to make the variable constant (can't change) in this case it has to be because it is used in an annoymous inner class. If i'm being honest I doubt much of this will make sense while you are still learning, it took me a long time, blood, sweat and tears before it clicked! so don't worry too much about understanding everything, trust me when I say as you develop more and more apps you will come across situations where the keywords final, static, class, @override etc. etc. begin to make sense but are purposely vague at the minute.

If you do want to learn in a bit more detail the Java courses here on treehouse delve a little deeper a little sooner and explain in more detail these keywords.

Hope this is of some help

Daniel
