how does nick know?

Im enjoying the course so far, but I dont understand sometimes nick is so specific. About this many pixels or about, changing margins or width or max width. It all makes sense and yet Im thinking how would I ever do this on my own?

It's just experience. A lot of it. The only way you'll get there is to start playing around with your own side projects just for the purpose of learning and pushing what does and doesn't work. That's the life of a software engineer/Web Dev! :)
