how get the value of attribute

I used this let inputValue = document.querySelector('[type=text]'); do I need anything else?

document.querySelector('[type=text]') returns the first element, likely an input, with a type of text. The next thing you need is to access the attribute on that element where the input value is stored. For input elements that is the value attribute. You can access value the same way you would access a property of an object. In this case it will look like:

let inputValue =  document.querySelector('[type=text]').value
