How to add # symbol and variable lastName in code challenge?

Been looking at this for two hours...I don't understand what the question is asking. Am I supposed to be printing the final result on the screen? And how do I incorporate a string with the id.toUpperCase variable?

app.js
var id = "23188xtr";
var lastName = "Smith";

var userName = id.toUpperCase();
document.write(username + '# ' + lastName);
index.html

<head>
  <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8">
  <title>JavaScript Basics</title>
</head>
<body>
<script src="app.js"></script>
</body>
</html>

var userName = id.toUpperCase() + "#" + lastName.toUpperCase();

This question has been answered quite a few times already in the forums. Next time, try copy and pasting the question into Google and you should find the forum link that already has the correct answer :)

Thanks, I tried searching the forums but didn't do a google search. I appreciate the help.
