how to create a function takes a single argument, a string.

Your argument is fine.

But your function needs to return the strings, not print them.

The challenge wants you to return the specified strings rather than print them (the same way you returned True in the last line).

def just_right(str):
    if len(str)<5:
        return "Your string is too short"
    elif len(str)>5:
        return "your string is too long"
    else:
        return True

Sorry to answer late but as the other people said, your function must return values not print them. Nothing wrong with your code though, even I was caught off-guard first time!
