in addition to the videos available here on Tree House, you can also purchase a book. I personally use: Java in 21 Days, Sams Teach Yourself (Covering Java 8) (7th Edition) & Java: A Beginner's Guide, Sixth Edition

both are really great books. It also helps to use an emulator that is less prone to finishing your code statements, like jGrasp. This way, you are able to understand your code a bit more.
