14,350 PointsYou are assigning the element to a new variable, instead of assigning it to the "button" variable. Simply cut n paste the selection to the "button" variable and delete the "msayPhrase" variable.

10,258 PointsAt the start of the challenge the button and input variables are not defined. They want you to define them to refer to the DOM elements they mention. For example:
var item = document.getElementById('idName');
// or
var itemList = document.querySelector('.className');
