I can't pass Task 1 of 3; how do I select elements within a specific element?

For example, let's say within the DOM there are two lists, one just a ul and one as a ul under <nav>. I only want the list items that are under nav

<nav> <ul> <li>one</li> <li>two</li> </ul> </nav>

<ul> <li>three</li> <li>four</li> </ul>

How would I use Javascript to get the <li> ONLY in the <nav>?

Hi Kenny,

The 1st tasks asked you to select the link ( anchor tag ) and not the <li> ( list tag ).

Like Robert said, you can select the child element by selecting first it's parent element or grand parents elements.

This code should make you pass the first task

let navigationLinks = document.querySelectorAll('nav ul li a'); //look i select first the parent elements nav, ul and li
let galleryLinks;
let footerImages;

in your selector specify the parent element first, then a space then the element within that parent you wish to select..

at what point do we get an example of this? or an example for the previous code challenge, ''' document.getElementById('#rainbow').getElementsByTagName('li'); ''' The only reason I got passed that one was because there were no other li elements and i omitted the id completely.
