I feel like this is the right way to select it and I even re-watched the videos. Am I missing something?

You are selecting the correct element, but the challenge isn't asking you to assign the element to the variable, but the value (provided by the user) into the <input>
element.
You need to access a specific property of the selector object and then assign that to the variable. The name of the variable will give a hint as to what property of the selector you are looking for.
Cheers
Alex
