I don't understand how pipes and redirection

Please I don't feel get this how do they work especially redirection

By default, output goes to the console, and anything needing input will wait for it to be entered at the console.

With redirection, you specify a different place to send output or get input. For example, the program "date" normally shows the current date and time on the console. But using output redirection:

date > now.txt

With this command, instead of displaying on the console, a new file named "now.txt" is created, and the date and time are written into it instead.
