I don't understand this question.

The challenge says to create the echo variable after the function.

It looks like you created it inside the function.

Also, it says to call your function using a string argument (a string would be enclosed in quotes). Then you would assign the result to your new variable.

Echo variable must be outside of function, like this:

function returnValue(x) {
  return x;
}

var echo = returnValue('What\'s up');
