JavaScript JavaScript Basics (Retired) Creating Reusable Code with Functions Passing an Argument to a Function

I don't understand what is being asked to be able to answer this part of the task

After your newly created returnValue function, create a new variable named echo. Set the value of echo to be the results from calling the returnValue function. When you call the returnValue function, make sure to pass in any string you'd like for the parameter.

The function will accept the string you pass to it and return it back (using the return statement). Then your echo variable will be set with what is returned, the results.

Oops! It looks like Task 1 is no longer passing.

script.js
function returnValue(name){
  return echo;
}

var echo = returnValue();
index.html

This worked! Which is semantically the same as what I posted. Not sure what your experiencing, but try what I have posted. As I stated, it wants you to return the value from the function, so you need to return the same value as the parameter in the function arguments. Then, when you call the function and save it to 'var echo', you need to pass in a string.

function returnValue(val){ return val; }

var echo = returnValue('string');

Hi Greg, I believe the issue was user error (shame face here) :D I stepped away for 30 minutes and when I came back to it, I re-ran your code and it worked. Thank you for your help, I really appreciate it, Lucille

Based on what I'm seeing, it is wanting you to assign the variable echo to the function and pass a string

function returnValue(name){ return name; }

var echo = returnValue('any string');

Hi Greg I tried that code and it came back say that task was no longer passing. Any ideas?
