I dont understand why it says total isnt defined

def add (num1, num2):

    try:
        total = float(num1) + float(num2)
        return total
    except ValueError:
        return none
    else:
        return total
trial.py

That message is a bit misleading.

You do have an error, but it's with a different word. You wrote "none" (with a lower-case "n") but it should be "None" (with a capital "N").

Also, while it doesn't cause an error, you don't need the "else" since you return from both the try block and the except block.
