I don't understand why my answer is wrong.

Can someone please explain the error in my syntax? I don't see the problem.

app.js 
var id = "23188xtr";
var lastName = "Smith";

var userName = id.toUpperCase();
var userName += "#" + lastName.toUpperCase();
index.html 
<!DOCTYPE HTML>
<html>
<head>
  <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8">

You have declared userName twice. Try putting the 'id.toUpperCase' on the line below and remove the += with a '=' Make sure the 'id.toUpperCase' is after the '=' You have it sooo close!!! :)

Here is my solution for others who are stuck but may have a different problem.

var userName = id.toUpperCase() + '#' + var lastName.toUpperCase();

:)
