I even copy pasted the example text, and it's still telling me it's wrong. Looks like a bug.

Any idea why this thing isn't registering this as a correct answer?

Challenges are very picky. In this case it expects one variable declaration, nothing more. So while your solution is not invalid it contains far more code than was asked for. Just assign your name once like this:

name = "Mike"

And that will be enough to complete the challenge.
