I get an error even after creating the var I've been asked to make (I think)

I've been asked by the prompt to add the number and last name (both uppercase) together with a # sign in the middle. i thought I'd done that (see code), but it comes back with an error.

app.js
var id = "23188xtr";
var lastName = "Smith";

var userName = id.toUpperCase();
var userName = id.toUpperCase() + '#' + lastName.toUpperCase();
index.html

<script src="app.js"></script>

</html>

When you are going to concatenate the userName with the "#" and the "lastName" variable you don't have to put the "var" keyword again, because that means that you are re-creating the variable "userName" and you don't have to ".toUpperCase()" the id again because you have all ready done it before. You could do it like this:

var id = "23188xtr";
var lastName = "Smith";

var userName = id.toUpperCase();
userName = userName + '#' + lastName.toUpperCase();

I hope that helps you a little bit.

Thanks! I know it's really basic, but that completely makes sense.
