I get the following message -> "The `userName` variable is "23188XTR#SMITH" not "23188XTR#SMITH". So what's the problem?

I cannot see my error, please help

app.js
var id = "23188xtr";
var lastName = "Smith";

var userName = id.toUpperCase();

userName = id.toUpperCase() + "#" + lastName.toUpperCase();

Hey there,

While the output will be the same, it's not exactly what the challenge asked you for. Challenges are very specific and very picky. It didn't ask you for a new line, it more specifically asked to "Complete the assignment to the userName variable..." meaning just add on to the line you already have.

var id = "23188xtr";
var lastName = "Smith";

var userName = id.toUpperCase() + "#" + lastName.toUpperCase();

Other than that, good job! :thumbsup:
