JavaScript JavaScript Basics (Retired) Creating Reusable Code with Functions Returning a Value from a Function

I get told "It looks like Task 1 is no longer passing" all the time. Well why the f*ck did you pass it then?!

script.js
function getYear () {
  var year = new Date().getFullYear();
}
return getYear;

It's normal, you made a mistake probably by distraction, the return should be inside the function, this way

function getYear(){
  var year = new Date().getFullYear();
  return year;
}

Generally speaking, the It looks like Task 1 isn't passing error occurs on subsequent tasks in which a syntax error has occurred and the challenge checking engine can't process/compile the code. Missing line end markers, improper bracket pairs, etc. will lead to that error.

Happy coding and welcome to Treehouse!
