Hello Ishwari,

I'm not sure what it is you mean by Backhand coding. But the front end of a website is easily customisable once you begin to understand the WordPress hierarchy and framework. What you're doing with WordPress is essentially creating a design from scratch, and then transferring it to WordPress by making the design a wordpress theme.

If what you're asking is can you copy the files from an existing theme and work on the front end then yes you can.

You'd be mostly working with the index.php, functions.php and style.css files in the WordPress theme you want to customise. But to work with the front end, you'd also have to be familiar with how WordPress uses those files too.

Hope this explains it :)
