if var lastName != document.getElementbyClassName("last_name") then, what it is. ByTagName("span")??

This is from the challenge task 2 of 2, "interactive web pages with Java Script"

app.js
var fullName = document.getElementById("full_name")
var lastName= document.getElementByClassName("last_name")
index.html
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head></head>
<body>
<h1 id="full_name"><span class="first_name">Andrew</span> <span class="last_name">Chalkley</span></h1>

<script src="app.js"></script>
</body>
</html>

That shouldn't be passing. It didn't pass for me when I tried it.

getElementsByTagName returns an array like collection of elements. You then need to use array bracket notation to access the element you need.

In this case there are 2 spans and you want to target the 2nd one. That would be index 1.

var lastName = document.getElementsByTagName("span")[1];

There might of been a glitch when I retook the challenge, this is the correct answer.

Your right, but remember its elements with an s on the end not getElement.

I tipe:

var fullName= document.getElementById("full_name"); //correct
var lastName = document.getElementsByTagName("span"); //bummer
// or
var lastName = document.getElementsByClassName("last_name"); //bummer

and it still doesnΒ΄t work :(

This passed for me:

var fullName= document.getElementById("full_name");
var lastName = document.getElementsByTagName("span");

I'm not sure what is going on your end. It might be an issue with something else then.
