If you edit child theme files, then the theme author releases an update, will updating the theme overwrite your changes?

I was under the impression that making changes to a Genesis child theme was not a good idea. Won't you loose you're changes if the theme author releases an update? Maybe I'm wrong?

Hi Dan,

When a theme is updated it will update all the files that are included with the main theme. So when you create a child theme of this particular theme it wont affect you child theme.

If the main theme changes their code that you adjusted in your child theme, it can affect your child theme but this just require changing up some code in your child theme.

So what im saying is the code of your child theme will never be updated when the theme author releases an update. It will just update the code of the main theme you've created a child theme on :)
