JavaScript JavaScript Basics (Retired) Storing and Tracking Information with Variables Using String Methods

I'm completely lost...plz help

I am able to get thought “Task 1” after inputting this:

After receiving a “PASS” I am completely clueless on how to correctly code “Task 2” which looks like this:

Not sure where I’m going wrong. Looking forward to your feedback.

Thank you

app.js
var id = "23188xtr";
+="#"
var lastName = "Smith";
lastName.toUpperCase();

var userName = id.toUpperCase();
document.write(id + lastName);
index.html
<!DOCTYPE HTML>
<html>
<head>
  <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8">
  <title>JavaScript Basics</title>
</head>
<body>
<script src="app.js"></script>
</body>
</html>

It looks like in the 2nd part of the challenge: Finally, add a # symbol and lastName in uppercase to the end of the userName string. The final value of userName is "23188XTR#SMITH".

We just need to add the '#' symbol, add the lastName (we can apply the toUpperCase() method), and we can put it all together in the 'userName' variable by adding each part.

var id = "23188xtr";
var lastName = "Smith";

var userName = id.toUpperCase()
userName = userName + '#' + lastName.toUpperCase();

You are close, it is just that you are not adding the "#" sign to any variable, one way to do it would be like that below:

var id = "23188xtr";
var lastName = "Smith";

var userName = id.toUpperCase();

userName += "#" + lastName.toUpperCase();

Hopefully this makes sense, just ask if you are unsure :)

THANK U SO MUCH!
