You are linking all 3 pages to the same page; index.html.

Try this:

      <nav>
        <ul>
          <li><a href="index.html">Portfolio</a></li>
          <li><a href="about.html">About</a></li>
          <li><a href="contact.html">Contact</a></li>

Linking the about means that you have to change the href in the link tag of your about list item.

<li><a href="about.html">About</a></li>

This means that the second list item -> your second link will point to the page www.yoursite.com/about.com
