I'm not really sure what it's asking me to do

I'm just guessing at this. I've reviewed the video's, but it seems unrelated or going about it a different way

app.js
let inputValue = document.getElementById('linkName');
inputValue = linkName.value;
index.html
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
    <head>
        <title>DOM Manipulation</title>
    </head>
    <link rel="stylesheet" href="style.css" />
    <body>
        <div id="content">
            <label>Link Name:</label>
            <input type="text" id="linkName">
            <a id="link" href="https://teamtreehouse.com"></a>
        </div>
        <script src="app.js"></script>
    </body>
</html>

For Task 1 -- Down at the bottom of the video that the Challenge references to, there is some information on using the "value" property. Your code is mostly correct, you would then add ".value" onto the tail end of Line 1.

This stackoverflow discussion might be of some help.
