I'm not sure whether or not my server has started

The layout to MAMP I have downloaded is different to that of the video. It's not allowing me to open the WebStart Page and there is no 'status' area for me to check if the server has started.

Try typing http://localhost in a browser and see if it returns anything that makes sense. If it doesn't find a result, no server.
