Treehouse Moderator 145,860 PointsHi Analyn, Because the one variable you need is a string, you must first convert it to a number before you can perform mathematical functions on it. That what the question means by using a JavaScript function. In this case the one you need to use is parseInt().
var totalWidth = parseInt(width) * numOfDivs;
