Let me break this down a bit:
-
"Create a function named returnValue": This part you've already done, you defined a function called
returnValue
function returnValue(){
}
-
" that accepts a single argument (you can name it anything)": We give a function a parameter that let's it accept an argument by adding that parameter name inside the parens
()
. I'm going to call this paramatervalue
.
function returnValue(value) {
}
-
"then immediately returns that argument.": We can return things from a function with the
return
keyword, and it will return whatever is after it on the same line. In this case, we're just going to return whatever argument was passed in to thevalue
parameter.
function returnValue(value) {
return value;
}
So if someone called returnValue(5)
this would just return the number 5. If we ran:
var result = returnValue(5);
console.log(result);
It would print "5" to the console.
