What are they talking about? I literally followed the steps...

Maybe not quite "literally". For example, task 1 says, "Create a new variable salesTotal that contains the total of the retailPrice multiplied by the quantity variable.". Notice that it asks you to multiply using variable not value.

So isntead of "9.99 * 47", the more literal interpretation would be "retailPrice * quantity".

With that in mind, I'll bet you can get all the tasks now.
