In the insert function do we use index number or the position number?

for example: j=[1,2,3,4] I want this j=[1,2,3,4,5] j.insert(len(j),5) gives me j=[1,2,3,4,5] But according to the video j.insert(len(j)-1,5) should give me j=[1,2,3,4,5]
