4,369 PointsInstalling the Treehouse VM on Windows lesson: no treehouse-vm.zip files listed in the drop down menu
The site given at the vm.teamtreehouse.com video lesson ("Installing the Treehouse VM on Windows", time position 3:35 minutes) by Jason Seifer, does not look the same as the one that I get when I go to vm.teamtreehouse.com . The one I get has a drop down menu but nowhere is the "treehouse-vm.zip" that Jason mentions in the video. Instead I get the drop down menus with 7 options: 1-User Authentication with Rails, 2-Build a Todo list with Rails 4, 3-Upgrading a Ruby on Rails Application, 4-Rails Layout and CSS Frameworks, 5-Build a Simple Ruby on Rails Application, 6-Building Social Features in Ruby on Rails, 7-Advanced Social Features in Ruby on Rails.
So which one or what do I pick to complete the Treehouse VM lesson if the "treehouse.vm.zip" is not listed? And how do I continue following the video for the zip file mentioned in the video if it is not there to install exactly like the video instructs to follow along? :-((

Treehouse Guest TeacherWe've updating that site slightly since creating the Treehouse VM to include more courses. Choose the course you are following along with from the dropdown and download the accompanying zip file. That takes the place of "treehouse-vm.zip" and is specific for each course.

Installing Ruby is the bane of my life at the moment! :'(

4,369 PointsCarrie, I feel your pain, but there is a fix. The quickest fix is to proceed to the VM installation portion of the Ruby's installation segment ("Installing a Ruby Development Environment - Installing the VM Treehouse on Windows")... if you do the VM version with Commander, and Virtual Box as instructed, you don't have to do the direct install of Ruby on your system (hopefully Windows, because that is what I am referring to, not Linux or MAC OS).
Also when you get to need that "treehouse-vm.zip" file spoke about in the video, use the dropdown window from the vm.teamtreehouse.com site and select: "User Authentication with Rails" option, and the vmtreehouse.zip will be the very first one shown! Click that link and follow the rest of the instructions.
Or, as a second option, if you really want to do the local Ruby install, try following the instructs given to me by another student here... it is a slightly older version of Ruby/Ruby on Rails, but it works great! Thank you, I got sorted in the end and just picked one of the options that gave the treehouse-vm.zip and it all seems OK now! I've given up on installing it directly on Windows, much prefer the virtual machine.

Treehouse Guest TeacherFernando Ramos no, you don't need all of those things if you install the Treehouse VM -- you just choose one or the other. If you have the VM installed, that is all you need.

4,369 PointsOK Jason, so it looks like the Treehouse VM works and I got Ruby on Rails via the cmder vm/vagrant thingy, per your direction with the "Installing the Treehouse VM on Windows" video... so my question is, do I then still need all the other stuff I installed earlier like the Ruby Windows Installer, the Ruby Development kit, GIT and the NodeJS stuff I installed earlier on the "Installing Ruby on Windows" video from this same stage?
I ask this because if we are running a Treeshoue VM, via the cmder terminal, will we be needing to use anything out of the Windows prompt that was initially setup earlier where I had all those problems? Especially since my SSD (OS) drive where I installed all this stuff is down to 3GB left of space, and if I won't need the Ruby Windows Installer, the devkit, Git or NodeJS, I would rather uninstall them so my SSD drive can free up more space. I wish I would have installed them all on my D:\ drive but since I have over 2 terabytes left. Please let me know! Thank you!
