Is a class just the blueprint for instances of that class?

Do you ever directly call or use a class? or is it just a sort of template for you to instantiate then use?

This may vary with the language, but classes in most object-oriented languages that use them can contain both instance methods and class methods. A class method can be called directly without having created an instance.

Otherwise, the class does effectively serve as a blueprint to create instances.
