Is the video's description of home.php vs front-page.php outdated?

I did some research about home.php vs front-page.php, since my playing around with the files weren't doing what the video was suggesting. I found this, which completely contradicts what the video is saying:

"Regardless of any settings, if front-page.php exists, WordPress will use it to display the contents of the front page. Regardless of settings, if neither front-page.php nor home.php exist, WordPress will use index.php to display the front page. If the setting โ€œFront page displaysโ€ is set to โ€œYour latest postsโ€ and front-page.php does not exist, WordPress will use home.php (if it exists)." https://wp-mix.com/difference-between-home-front-page-php/

The video says that if "your latest posts" is chosen, home.php is used and front-page.php is ignored...

I'm not sure which video you're referring to since this post isn't linked to it, but I seem to remember reading somewhere that Treehouse's WP instructor no longer had a working relationship with Treehouse and the course sort of had fallen to the wayside while they looked for another instructor. I can't remember exactly, where I read this. I think it was a staff response to a question on one of the videos I was watching at the time. Either way, the probability that the WP videos are a bit outdated is extremely high. On the plus side, though, they have been updating a lot of existing courses and adding new ones in the future. Supposing they've acquired a WP instructor, I would guess WP is on the list for an update, especially since it has evolved a bit since those videos were made.

It's difficult to answer without knowing what video we're referencing, but if you can link that I can look further into it.
