Is this the right way to copy the entire list with a slice?

a_list = [1, 2, 3]
a_list = a_list[:]

[MOD: added ```python formatting -cf]

Your code does make a copy of a_list, however it overwrites the original a_list with the copy. Perhaps you meant:

a_list = [1, 2, 3]
b_list = a_list[:]
