WordPress Getting Started with WordPress Getting Started with WordPress When is WordPress Not the Best Solution?

Is WordPress suitable for me and my site idea?

I've had this idea for a long time and now want to make it reality. The idea is to make a website about music and post daily content on it, i don't want to use a template from wordpress but design it on my own, just how i want it. Is that possible?

Yes, WordPress would be perfect for this! I recommend doing both the Learn WordPress and WordPress Development Tracks so you can get your head around the WordPress platform, and of course PHP basics so you have some basic understanding of how everything works so you don't run into problems. That should give you the skills and knowledge you need to build a great site like the one you are looking to build. I also recommend checking our From Bootstrap to WordPress if you're into building sites with Bootstrap, but it is an Advance course.

Hope this helps : )

Sure, the front end of wordpress is completely customizable, the only limitation is your skill set. It sounds like wordpress would be fine, but before you start writing any code, start with the end in mind. What I mean is dream up any features you might want on your site, and than have an idea how you would create that feature in wordpress.

I started a site without doing this, and started working in wordpress for 7 months before it became such a rabbit hole of issues to get the features I wanted, I scraped wordpress and in 60 days and rebuilt everything in a custom Ruby on Rails app. I still love wordperss though, it just wasnt the right tool for that website.

Thank you so much everyone for the nice answers! I know what to do now!

It sounds to me that you are looking to build a blog about music, so YES WordPress it's great at that and YES you can create a custom theme that no one else has.

Is going to be a long road though depending on your skill set. If you are patient and stick to learning everything you can here at Treehouse I am sure you can accomplish your goal.

All the courses Stu Cowley recommended will be great at giving you the knowledge you need specially WordPress Development Track and the brand new course PHP for WordPress.

Good luck!
