Not sure what I'm missing. the only error I get is Task 1 is no longer passing

script.js
function getYear() {
var year = new Date().getFullYear();
  return year;
}

getYear() = var yearToday;

You've got the right idea, but there is a parse error in your code. This is happening because your last assignment line is just flipped.

getYear() = var yearToday; // This won't work, because you're trying to assign something to the function you've created.
var yearToday = getYear(); // Instead, you want to assign the variable to the function call.

Happy coding!

Hey Franklin,

You have your function call backwards, you should be assigning the functions return value to the variable.

An example -

var foo = getValue();

Let me know if this helps!
