It wasn't explain how he got 2 columns for the images? What if I wanted 3 or 4 columns?

We used the property float to get 2 columns - but why 2 specifically? If I wanted to have 3 or 4 columns, how should I adjust my code?

You would have to adjust the width of the <li> element in your CSS code, like this:

To make 4 columns:

#gallery li {
    width: 20%;
}

The value of 20% probably won't work out-of-box and would need some adjusting due to the margin of the page, but generally, width is the property you're going to want to tinker with here.
