Its giving me an error because it says sundaes is a list but when I type(sundaes) in the python shell, it says its a str

I don't understand why it thinks sundaes is a list. It should be a string and the python shell agrees.

banana.py
available = "banana split;hot fudge;cherry;malted;black and white"
sundaes = " ".join(available.split(";"))

Hi Sean,

the error actually says "sundaes should be a list". So yes, right now it is a string (because you joined the list elements).

task 1 of 3 : on this task the variable available is a string and is asking you to use .split() to make it a list and assign it to a new variable sundaes

available = "banana split;hot fudge;cherry;malted;black and white"
sundaes = available.split(';')
