JavaScript Function variable not being stored

I been trying to solve this function problem forever. I have re-watched the video, tried moving information back and forth. I'm frustrated. I keep getting "Hmmm. It doesn't look like you're storing the returned value in the echo variable.", if that. I don't know what else to do, I've tried other variants of the code to no avail.

script.js
function returnValue (drink) {
 var echo = drink;
 return echo;
}

returnValue('Water');

You were so very, very close!

In step 2 it wants the var echo declared after (outside of) the function. Like so:

function returnValue(drink) {
  return drink;
}

var echo = returnValue("Water");
