"?jsoncallback=?" query string is a general solution?

Hey everyone, I've just watched the AJAX basics course and there's something I'm not sure about. I've seen the teacher using this querystring: "?jsoncallback=?" at the end of the url to request JSONP from the server using "$.getJSON()". Is it a general solution that works (and neccessery) on most of the websites or it's rather situational?

The impact of query strings would depend on the API at the server side that is handling the request. There may be some common conventions, but the documentation for service being used should be consulted for specific cases.
