.jsx VS .js

i found out that if i use .JS i can not format my code and when i do it , it breaks my code, however its not happening with .JSX and everything's fine with that even when i change the .JS from create-react-app files to .JSX , so , the question is , am i allowed to do that? or i'm going to face problems down the road, thanks for all the possible answers in advance :)
