Hey Arnetta!

You are actually placing your navigation tags inside of the link or "a" tag. You have to place them after the closing "a" tag. Also, your unordered list and list items should be nested inside of your nav like so...

    <header>

      <a href="index.html">
        <h1>Nick Pettit</h1>
        <h2>Designer</h2>
      </a>

     <nav>
        <ul>
          <li>"Portfolio"</li>
          <li>"About"</li>
          <li>"Contact"</li>
        </ul>
     </nav>

    </header>

I think you misplaced the <nav>, also you misplaced </a>
