it seems to accepts:

#gallery li {
  float:left;
  width: 45%;
}

The selector here just means li elements that are inside the #gallery. see https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/CSS/Descendant_selectors for more on the 'descendent selector'

Actually I was able to figure it out.
