When I type in ruby v- into my terminal prompt it tell me my mac already has Ruby 2.0? Do I still need homebrew and git?

20,485 PointsBoth homebrew and git are not preinstalled on Mac. You will need both to complete any Ruby on Rails videos here on Treehouse. (homebrew to install things like imagemagick and git to save your work/collaborate) You may want to also install rbenv in order to change your versions of ruby. See here for more:
