how to center an ID on the page using the margin property

Try 

#selector{
     margin: 0 auto;
}

If it does not work at first set the ID display to block, and see if that works. If that does not work, could you post some code for us to look at.

In order for the auto margin to work an element should be a block element, not floated, not using absolute or fixed position, and must have a width.

I think this is true, could someone correct me if I am wrong.

Not sure what you mean by "center an ID," but you can center text in it's container with this:

example{ text-align: center; }

one way to center on page is like this:

example { display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; }

Select the ID wrapper, set it to a max width of 940 pixels, and then center it on the page using the margin property.

this is what question i got for the test and the last problem i need help with
